My family & I, together with the ashes of my lola, Miguela Rox(j?)as Beredo, went to visit Taal last Visita Iglesia_Maundy Thursday to start tracing the roots of my maternal side. Unfortunately I had a freak accident in the churchground of the Taal Basilica that made us leave the place in haste to seek medical help. I have vivid memories of my childhood vacation spent in Taal. I always associate it with the time of year where I feast on kamatchile, pakaskas, & panutsa. My lola used to say that my maternal greatgrandlolo was addressed Don Pedro Roj(x?)as. He got married but his wife bore no child. Why the parenthesis in both x & j? I had an aunt telling me our version is Rojas but noted on my lola’s gravemarker that it was spelled Roxas. I’ve heard about an organization of Taalenos that’s tracing the original family settlers. I was wondering if they can help me trace my other relatives that lived there on inherited lots of our lolo & lolas? Thank you very much.

Hi Ms. Canonigo, please send some more details that you may have about your lola and greatgrandlolo: full names, year of birth, year of death, address in Taal, name of spouse, children, etc. The Taal Alliance will try to get some basic info that you can then pursue further. Please email these info to bquiblat@yahoo.com.

My friends and I plan to have a day tour of Taal this Nov. We will go there on our own. I have been in Taal a number of times but this time we would need a good tour guide who could lead us around so that we do not waste time. Any suggestion? Ceres of Inquirer

  5. Just passing by. Congrats for this informative site. Just wondering why the last captured (not surendered) General and the first Mayor of Taal was not included in “Famous Taaleños in History”. General Martin Cabrera

    God Bless!

My son is turning 11 next week and would like to celebrate his birthday with a road trip instead. So we (me, my husband and kids aged 11 and 6) are planning to visit Taal volcano and the town of Taal for the weekend. We are coming from Taguig. Can you suggest an itinerary for us plus around how much we expect to spend in each destination? Thank you!

Sorry for late reply. If you plan to have a day tour of Taal Heritage Town, I can recommend a short itenerary for 2 to 3 hours or a 4 to 6 hour one. The short visit can include 2 churches and 2 museums, while the longer visit can include ancestral houses as well. The museums have volountary donations while the ancestral houses have entrance fees of P50 per person for maintenance.

well done…….. just discover this site, quite interesting. maybe a video ‘tour of Taal’ can be added in this website. how about making of the ‘bolos’ in pandayan, the schools, anything in action. Proud to be a Taaleno : )

Hi. My family & I are planning a day tour of Taal. Would greatly appreciate if you could e-mail us the fastest driving directions to your town from SLEX. Thank you in advance. :-)

Hi Migo! The fastest way to Taal is: after Calamba Exit, go straight all the way to STAR Toll Road, and exit Lipa City. After Lipa toll exit, turn right towards the direction of Batangas City, then turn right towards Cuenca.

Then just follow the road passing by Alitagtag, then straight towards Sta. Teresita. Then at Sta. Teresita junction, turn right towards Taal town. Take the left direction as you reach the Flying V gasoline station, straight into the Heritage town of Taal.

    Enjoy!

  15. Greetings!

I represent a family group of about a thousand family members/ descendants of Don Perpetuo Agoncillo and Doña Fidela Marasigan de Agoncillo of Taal, Batangas who lived from about mid to late 1800s. (Their eldest children were born in the 1890s).

We have a family tree at geni.com and we are in search of more information on the Agoncillo families of Batangas, and how their progenitors were related. We are yet to find out who Perpetuo’s siblings and parents were.

We will be very grateful if anyone who has information related to our questions can help us

    Thank you.

If coming from Tagaytay, how do I get to Taal Town Proper? How long does it take to get there from Tagaytay?

Hi. How do you go from St. Therese, Sta Teresita Batangas going to Basilica of St Martin of tours and Shrine of Our Lady of Casaysay? Appreciate the help and info. Thanks

Hi Frannie, From Tagaytay to Taal, go straight past Splendido, then turn left towards Lemery once you see San Miguel Training Center on your left (just before “Welcome to Nasugbu” sign). Just follow Diokno Highway, past Leisure Farm, until you reach the highway junction at the down the ridge. Turn left towards Lemery. You may pass through the town of Lemery, past McDonalds until you cross the bridge which is already Taal. Turn left after the bridge and you will already see old houses on both sides all the way to the municipio and Taal Basilica. It takes around 45 minutes drive from Tagaytay proper to Taal. Hope this helps!

Hi Trish, Just follow the highway towards Lemery and Calaca. When you reach the Y junction where you have the Flying V station, take the left road to enter the town of Taal. The Basilica is just around 2 km from the junction and right in front of the municipio. Cheers!

Hi, we have just been to Taal Batangas, but we felt our trip was cut short because we didn’t get to see the suggested places to visit. The Agoncillo house was closed (Sunday 11am), even if we just talked to the caretaker the previous day and he confirmed that it will be open from 8am to 5pm everyday including Sundays. We weren’t sure where the other houses were too. Can I make a suggestion? Maybe the municipality can make a map of the places to go and indicate the opening/closing time so it would be easier for the toursits to navigate the town. The town is small so it’s easy to get around but not knowing where to go wastes time. Good thing our trip to the Basilica including the bell tower made our trip all worth while.

Hi! I heard wonderful stuff about Taal Heritage Town and would like to know the best time and days of the week to come visit to make sure that all the museums are open. Thanks very much!

  23. Hi! I hope you’ll add a (downloadable PDF) map of Taal in this website, with the tourist spots highlighted or something. That’s all. :) I was trying to find one, but sadly Google Maps doesn’t have a detailed map of the town.

I would love to trace and know the origin of my ancestors as well. It’s sad that nobody in our family are that interested to know or just totally clueless. My grandfather was born in Taal, Batangas (Cesar Cabrera Sr.). His parents are Emilio Agoncillo Cabrera and Maria Babao. They eventually moved in Davao City. I had nobody to ask because all of them are deceased already. I just grew up knowing that I am part batangueno because of my grandfather.

  25. I second the suggestion of ji layug. I’ve been Googling for a similar map but to no avail.
